New Old Light | design crush

For today's design crush I want to show you the New Old Light by KIMU design studio.
A table lamp made of wood, metal and paper, inspired by the traditional Chinese paper lanterns.
A bit of industrial style with a soft and poetic touch. Loving it!

Renovation of a Vila in Portugal

A beautiful mix of Past and Present in this old family house renovation.
The architecture studio Clínica de Arquitecura had as their main objectives: to give the spaces more fluidity, more light and basically a new "life" to the home... but without losing it's particular character and it's memories.

I love all the beautiful details and the amount of care taken to combine old and new in an harmonious way.
My favourites? The general luminosity which makes me feel nostalgic for the summer in Portugal. The new stairs, and the way they belong effortlessly in the old space. And the marble kitchen sink, because it reminds me of the one my grandmother had.

"Sometimes, everything has to change so that everything stays the same...
Today, looking at the house, it seems that it was always like this."

Chalkboard Birthday Cake

Let's start this week with cake.
How awesome is this chalkboard cake?
You can even write on it with chalk candy!
It would look so damn cute at a vintage themed party.
And... seriously... a black and white cake! What's there not to love?

I found these photos on A subtle Revelry blog, follow the link to see how to make it (doesn't look overly complicated), both the chalkboard cake and the candy chalks.
Produced and photographed by Athena Plichta

Kids Bedroom | creativity in vintage and blue

Who said that a little girl's room must be pink?!
This girl wanted a blue room and she got it... and it's not less feminine because of it.

With a sweet romantic and vintage atmosphere, this room is full of great ideas to anyone looking for inspiration on how to decorate a girl's bedroom.

All the furniture is painted white, creating a neutral base that will hardly need any changing as the child grows up.

Blue tape on the white painted floor makes for a fun and imaginative area rug.

Pillows are always a great idea. They can transform a bed into a cosy and inviting sofa during playtime. And just by changing their covers you can have a completely different styled room.

The walls come as a perfect canvas to reflect one's imagination.
The wall board next to the work desk is made of a patchwork of various fabrics and patterns. And a collection of different frames, painted in different shades of blue are perfect to keep the little one's works of art and all sorts of personal mementos.

Retro Kitchen Styling

Today I'm sharing this Kitchen style for Fantastic Frank in the most adorable retro way.

I'm loving the walls all covered in white subway tiles and white retro cabinets, and the graphism of the black and white floor tiles. Plus the plants and flours, which really had a feeling of Spring freshness to it.

work space | SCANDINAVIAN STYLE

A small, but full of character, home work space to start the week
...because, on Mondays, one needs an extra 'push'.

Love the table with the black and white tiles on top, and the hanging magazines to have your inspiration always at hand.

tranquil bedroom | SCANDINAVIAN STYLE

In love with the atmosphere of this bedroom.
Simple, bright and light.
With just enough, slightly eccentric, vintage details to give it some personality.
I could sleep here...

eclectic and colourful | SCANDINAVIAN LIVING

This living room is from an apartment for sale at Fantastic Frank and not exactly (not at all) my style. But I decided to share it because there's some sort of intriguing charm to it.
Let's put it this way: It's not a place I would live in, but I would definitely visit it often.

The style is "all over the place"...
Granny's home and flee markets findings look mixed with recent Scandinavian design and art pieces (try looking at the first photo and then straight to the last one). Industrial and mid-century also making an appearance.
And way to much yellow for my personal taste.

But it looks cosy and personal and, in the end, that's all that matters, right?

scandinavian apartment | retro in restrain

Loving the styling and photography (especially the detail 'vignettes') of this apartment, once again from Fantastic Frank!

Plants and  retro details come together with neutral tones (note the concrete floor and the raw wood) and the emptiness of the rooms, creating a cosy, but at the same time almost minimalistic, atmosphere. As if someone's keeping 'the mid century' in check. One can almost feel the tension in the first two images.

a child's bedroom with vintage details

Grey and vintage really seem to be making their way into kid's rooms.
And how cute is the little reading nook? ... and easy to make.

Vintage Inspiration | Kids Bedroom

I really like this tendency of decorating kids spaces with a vintage inspiration.
How cute is this bedroom?

A soft neutral background in a warm grey, with cheerful pops of  colour.
Full of personality without going over the top...

Vintage Inspiration | Kitchen

I found the perfect Kitchen to start my day!

Bright, calm and white...everything is ready to prepare my coffee... then I'll hold my mug and sit at that vintage, cute little table, looking through the window and slowly awaking.
