Emma Persson Lagerberg's home

I love seeing how people whose work I admire live. So, to start this new week, I'm sharing the home of Emma Persson Lagerberg, a Swedish interior stylist, photographed by the also very talented photographer Petra Bindel

I was first captivated by the kitchen in tones of mint green, with the mason jars linen up on an open shelf and the detail of a chair painted green. Looks fresh and inviting, don't you think? But I also love that there are books spread all over the place and that little reading nook with an old, leather covered chair... I could spend hours there. And to end the tour in perfection, those double white doors opening to a peaceful  white bedroom. I would gladly live there.

Vipp + Merci

The story of the Vipp's pedal bin is an example of permanence in good design. This pedal bin, created in 1939, by Holger Nielsen, for his wife's hair saloon, was in the origin of the internationally recognized Danish design company Vipp. And in 2009 it was accepted into the architecture and design collection of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Today, the pedal bin continues to be very sought after, and as the iconic product that it is, it gets to be dressed, styled, painted and personalized by different artists and designers, for limited editions or charity purposes, that you can find on Vipp's Pinterest board Collaborations.

On a previous post, about Merci opening it's web-shop, I shared the images of their paper bag as one of my favourite products. So you can imagine my excitement when I first learned, on Nordic Leaves blog, that the designers of the paper bag (the French design team bê-pôles) and Vipp had worked together for a limited edition of the pedal bin for Merci. I had to share it here!

By far my favourite collaboration...what do you think?

Scandinavian Style - Family Room

When I moved to Denmark I noticed that the layout of theirs homes is, generally, very different from what you can find in Portugal. And the most flagrant of those differences is the predominant existence of a room where living, dinning and kitchen coexist. They call it "Alrum", the equivalent of a "family room" in English, and it derives from the strong concerns and integration of the idea of family and family life in interior design and architecture around the 1960's.

It took me a little time to stop worrying about the smell of food and the mess that a kitchen can become, and focus on the idea that it's not necessarily a bad thing to be forced to pay more attention to what you have in your kitchen and how you show it. To actually think and plan that space without being able to rely on closing a door. But what I love more about it, I must admit, is that being someone that loves baking and spends a lot of time around food, I don't have to be isolated to do so.

So today I'm sharing an example of a Scandinavian family room, in neutral tones and with a mix of mid-century and industrial style. Photographed and styled by Lovely Life and for sale at the Swedish real estate agency Alexander White.

White and Green for Muuto 2013

This Spring I'm having a serious crush on white and green styling. Neutral tones with a few splashes of green, clean lines, simplicity, and overall a fresh atmosphere. Especially when the green comes mainly from natural plants. And these images, from Muuto's Spring 2013 catalogue, illustrate that with perfection.

Balfour Place by KHBT

Today I want to share the renovation of an apartment in Mayfair, London, by the design team KHBT.
The whole space was planned to be completely white with rather "clean" lines, where a strip of walnut timber crosses the apartment, and connects it's opposite sides, becoming the kitchen counter at one end and the bathtub at the other. A dark, warm, wooden element contrasting with the cool white background.
Going up and down the stairs may seem a bit weird and inconvenient but, since this is a renovation and they were constrained by the several levels of the old construction, I quite like that they decided to embrace these features to create this beautiful, mostly graphical, gesture, that completely transforms the apartment into something unique.

Table Cloths and Weekend Memories

When I was growing up, Sunday was the day for the family lunch reunion at my grandmother's. Big southern family around big old table, you can picture it right? But kids weren't allowed at the table until the grown ups were done eating (we didn't really all fit at the dinning table so the little ones ate in the kitchen). But afterwards we would go find our respective mums and sit on their laps listening to the adults conversations. A table in disarray and full of stains is what I remember most about those times. The conversations didn't always make sense to us, but being there, in the presence of all our loved ones, arguing and laughing, was very comforting. So what better way to wish you all a great weekend than sharing these printed table cloths that evoke those childhood memories.

This collection was designed by Marion Peeters, and it's called "48 hours" precisely because it's about weekend memories.

Kitchen tile niche

Today I'm loving this kitchen, with it's black and white tile niche and the green details of plants and the baby's chair.
