Boy's Room Inspiration | graphic + black and white

If you read my last post, you know I'm expecting my first child - a boy - and that I've been looking for inspiration for his future nursery/room.

One of the styles I'm more fond of is the graphic + black and white room.
I found this example from SISSY+MARLEY (you can see more of their portfolio on Pinterest here) and I'll tell you what I like more and less about it.

I like the black and white. There!... I can't help it. I'm not a big fan of a lot of colour. I absolutely hate those rooms that are all pink or all blue and everything matches. They give me nightmares and I simply can't have it. I love neutral colours as a canvas, and then yes, then I can introduce some colourful details: with the books, the toys, some clothes...

I don't really like the starts on the wall... to me it's too much. A white wall there, maybe with a frame or a poster, would have been much more to my style.

I'm also not crazy about some of the pop design elements that we've been seeing spread and repeated till exhaustion in many interior design blogs: like the batman poster or the big Lego head. But once again this is due to my personal taste. I much rather prefer the vintage vibe from the leather trunk dresser.

Now the best part for me, and something that tends to be a theme in black and white children's rooms, is the chalkboard wallpaper. There's just so many things we can do with it, so many inventive and fun ways to use it that I'm 100% sure that that will be part of my little Matheus' room.

Black and White Kitchen

Today I'm loving this kitchen - with a bit of a dramatic flair - found on Fantastic Frank.

The black walls covered with photo frames are a consistent theme throughout the whole apartment. But I find them particularly original and interesting in the kitchen.

The black frying pans against the black wall is a beautiful, almost understated, detail and allows for the contrast between the black walls and floors and the white tiles and carpentries to be more accentuated.

A single pop of a bold colour, with that ceramic pot on the stove, and we have a truly inspirational kitchen .

DIY | cardboard butterflies

Ah! Weekend is here...so how about I leave you with an idea for a simple and fun DIY:
cardboard butterflies on the wall!

I made mine in black and white to be consistent with the colours of my (in progress) gallery wall. But imagine how great it would look as a colourful project for a little girl's birthday party...or just a grown up's party really!

how to do it:
Print the butterfly template  (click on the link to download it) and cut it out.
Fold the cardboard of your choice in half.
Draw the half-butterfly on the cardboard (the straight line of the template coincides with the fold).
Cut out the butterfly and open it.
Fixate it on the wall with double tape or sticky fix.
Repeat as many times as you like (or have the patience to...)

Hope you like it,
Have a great weekend!

LIGHTING | ARIA floor

Today I'm sharing the ARIA floor lamp, designed by Nicoletta Binello for Davide Groppi
A modular light cube, in black matte metal, that follows the current tendency for simplicity and geometry in interiors design.

Gallery Wall Inspiration

I'm in love with this wall display at Daniella Witte's home.
Love how everything is arranged: the art, the neutral tones and how the hanging frames play with the black chair and the plant stand on the floor.
Can only 'drool' over her beautiful photos... and plan of making a gallery wall of my own in the future.

Linda Lundgren

I´m still on vacation on a very warm and very humid island!
So I´ll just quickly put here some beautiful pictures, some in tones of white, others in tones of black, by the Swedish food stylist  Linda Lundgren on Agent Bauer.

chalckboard paint jar

As I mentioned earlier this week, I made my first experiment with chalkboard paint. I used an empty bottle of Cocio (Danish chocolate milk), that may or may not have been consumed with some hot-dogs... and got myself a nice black jar, but since I'm not good at keeping flowers alive I chose to use reeds instead.

I ordered the paint from Amazon (specific for smooth surfaces like ceramics or glass). You are supposed to paint the bottle and let it dry for 24h. Unfortunately, due to some inexperience or pure "nabness", I put to much paint in some areas, which covered parts of the nice texture the bottle has. And the jar is full of imperfections because the paint started running down like a candle melting. I love it anyway but my advise is to not use to much paint in the beginning, because it has a tendency to spread by itself when it's drying anyway. And then if need be, apply a second hand later. After it's dry, it goes in the oven for 35 minutes at 150.C. When it's done you can use chalk to write on it. Looks nice and it's fun.

Black mood...

No, I'm not sad or depressed.

I've just been doing my first experiment with black chalkboard paint, and now I need to wait 24h for the paint to dry, then cook it and only then see the finally result. So, in the meanwhile, I felt like sharing some beautiful pictures about black.
